Brief content

 This Course  stresses the importance of the Arabic language as a means of communication . Hence , there is an  urgent need to learn it effectively. Accordingly, the course covers the basic rules governing syntax, spelling ,morphology and punctuation … , which will equip the students with the ability to master the language and its correct use.

Objectives:  This course aims at :

1-      Developing the students linguistic skills.

2-      Training students on the proper use of the Arabic language.

3-      Developing the students' reading, writing and editing skills .

Contents:

Unit1:  Introduction

-            The importance and the use  of the Arabic language.

-             Language as a means of communication: definition –nature  – and  functions

-              Reading :definition, importance, goals and types

Unit 2 : Basic syntactic rules

-            Parts of the speech: noun , verb and preposition

-          Word morphology :   types , sings , types of sentences-

-          Numbers  

Unit 3: basic  conjugating rules

-          Infinitives and affixation in word morphology ( verbs  and  nouns)

-          Ways of deriving plurals

Unit 4 :Spelling

-          The spelling of the letter "أ " in the middle and at the end of the word

-          The spelling of the letter "ت " at the end of the word

-          Punctuation

Unit 5:

-          Texts

-          Dictionaries

-          The Arabic language on the internet

Course Outcomes:

A-                Knowledge:

-          Identifying the importance of the Arabic language and its cultural and historical roles .

-          Reading and comprehending some reading passages selected mainly from the Holy Quran, Hadith and Arabic literature ( poetry and prose).

-          Mastering the use of the conjugation basic rules .

B-Cognitive Skills

-          Mastering the use of spelling and punctuation  rules  and grasping the knowledge that the students need .

 

C- Interpersonal skills and responsibilities

 

-          Acquiring the ability to produce pieces of writing in accurate Arabic  in a way that improves and deepens the student's sense of self-confidence .

-          Mastering the use of the Arabic language within the community

-          Ability to read and comprehend Arabic texts of different genre

 

D- Analysis and communication:

-          Acquiring the ability to understand and analyze the different linguistic rule of the Arabic language

-          Mastering accurate communication  in its verbal and written forms .

-          Mastering the scientific and rational analysis  according to the previously acquired knowledge .

 

Assessment methods for the above elements

Evaluation is mainly through midterm exams , homework and class discussion
